Key Facts

Earth's Tilt
Earth is tilted on its axis, causing different amounts of sunlight to reach different parts of the planet throughout the year.
Sun's Height
The Sun appears higher in the sky during summer, bringing more direct sunlight and warmth.
Daylight Hours
Seasons are also marked by changes in how many hours of daylight we get each day.
WOW Fact
When it's summer in the Northern Hemisphere (where the United States is), it's winter in the Southern Hemisphere (like Australia)!

Why Earth Wears Different Clothes!

Imagine Earth is like a spinning top that's a little bit wobbly! This wobble, called a tilt, makes different parts of Earth lean towards or away from the Sun. When your part of Earth leans towards the Sun, it gets more sunshine and feels warmer – that's summer!

When it leans away, it gets less sunshine and feels colder – that's winter. It’s like Earth is playing a giant game of peek-a-boo with the Sun!

The Sun's Sunny Hugs!

Seasons happen because of how much sunshine we get. In summer, the Sun feels like a big, warm hug because it's higher in the sky and shines for longer. In winter, the Sun is like a shy friend, peeking out for shorter times and not feeling as warm. This change in sunshine makes plants grow, animals nap, and us want to wear different clothes!

Four Fun Friends: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter!

Most places have four main seasons. Spring is when flowers pop up and baby animals are born. Summer is for playing outside and long, sunny days. Fall brings colorful leaves and cozy sweaters. Winter means snow, hot chocolate, and maybe even hibernation for some animals! Each season has its own special magic and things to do.

Seasons Around the World!

Did you know that when it's summer in your home, it's winter for kids on the other side of the world? That's because Earth's tilt means one half is leaning towards the Sun while the other is leaning away. Some places near the equator don't have big changes like snow, but they might have a rainy season and a dry season instead!
