Key Facts
Wiltshire: A Land of Rolling Hills!
Imagine a place in England called Wiltshire! It's like a giant green blanket with gentle hills that go up and down, called downlands. These hills are made of chalk, which is a soft white rock.
In some parts, the land is flat and wide, like a huge playground called Salisbury Plain. There are also forests with tall trees and pretty valleys where rivers flow. It's a very peaceful and beautiful place to explore!
Meet the Giant Stones of Stonehenge!
Wiltshire is super famous for Stonehenge! It's a circle of enormous stones that are older than your grandparents' grandparents! Nobody knows exactly how they got there or why, but it's like a giant outdoor puzzle from a long, long time ago. There's another place with stones called Avebury, which is even bigger! These ancient places are so special they are called a 'World Heritage Site'.
Where the Rivers Play!
Two rivers named Avon flow through Wiltshire, but they are different! One Avon river starts in the north and wiggles its way across the land. The other Avon river begins on Salisbury Plain and flows through a city called Salisbury. This city has a very tall and old cathedral with a super-duper tall spire! These rivers are like watery paths that help the plants and animals in Wiltshire live.
Lots of People and Big Towns!
Even though Wiltshire has lots of open spaces, many people live there! The biggest town is called Swindon, which is like a bustling city. Salisbury is another important city, famous for its amazing cathedral.
Trowbridge is the town where the grown-ups who help run Wiltshire have their offices. Lots of people work in different jobs, like farming the land or looking after the beautiful parks and houses.
