Meet the Sky Warriors!

In old stories from a land called Norse mythology, there were amazing women called Valkyries. They weren't just any women; they were like sky messengers! Their job was to fly down to battlefields and choose the bravest warriors who had sadly passed away.

They would then guide these brave souls to a special hall in the sky called Valhalla, which belonged to the god Odin. It was like a VIP club for heroes!

Where Did They Come From?

These incredible Valkyries are mentioned in very old books, like poems written down a super long time ago, around 800 years back! These stories were told and retold for many years before anyone wrote them down. People in places like Iceland and Scandinavia believed in them. They even made little charms that might have shown Valkyries, so they could keep their magic close!

Why They Were So Cool

Valkyries were super important because they helped the best warriors get to Valhalla. Once there, these warriors would become super fighters called 'einherjar'. When they weren't practicing for a big, world-ending event called Ragnarök, the Valkyries would bring them yummy drinks!

Sometimes, Valkyries were also seen as heroes' girlfriends, and they were sometimes shown with cool animals like ravens or graceful swans.

Valkyries Today!

Even though these stories are ancient, Valkyries are still super popular! You can find them in cool drawings, exciting video games, and even in music and poems. They are like ancient superheroes who keep inspiring people with their bravery and their special jobs. They show us that strong female characters have been around for a very, very long time!
