It's a public university, which means it's open to lots of students who want to get super smart.
UCT is also a research university, which means clever people there are always trying to discover new things and solve big problems.
A Super-Duper Old School!
UCT is really, really old! It started way back in 1829, even before your grandparents' grandparents were born! At first, it was called the South African College.
Then, in 1918, it became a full university. That makes it the oldest university in all of South Africa and even the oldest one in a huge part of Africa that's still running today. It's like the grandparent of all universities in that region!
Why UCT is So Cool!
UCT is super special because it's one of the best universities in Africa. It's so good that it's invited to hang out with 25 other top universities from all over the world in a special club called the Global University Leaders Forum. Also, some people who studied or worked at UCT have won a Nobel Prize, which is like winning the biggest award for being super smart and helpful to the world!
That's like winning a gold medal for your brain!
Learning Adventures!
At UCT, you can learn in English, and there are 57 different departments where you can study. That's more departments than you have fingers and toes! Students can learn from the beginning of university all the way up to becoming super-duper experts.
UCT has six different campuses, which are like six different neighborhoods for learning, spread out in Cape Town. Imagine having six playgrounds just for learning!
