United Auto Workers

The United Auto Workers, or UAW, is like a big club for people who build cars, trucks, and even tractors! It started a long, long time ago, back when your grandparents were kids. These workers decided to stick together to make sure they were treated fairly and got paid good money for their hard work.

They are super important because they help make sure the people who build the things we use every day are happy and safe on the job.

A long time ago, workers didn't always get paid much or have safe places to work. So, in the 1930s, people who worked in car factories decided to form a union. This meant they all agreed to work together.

If one person had a problem, everyone stood with them! It was like a superhero team-up! They got really strong and helped make sure car makers paid their workers well and gave them good benefits, like healthcare.

The UAW is a big deal because they helped make sure that the people who build our cars and trucks have good jobs. They fought for fair pay, which means workers could buy homes and take care of their families. They also helped make sure factories were safe places to be. Even though things have changed, the UAW is still around today! They have more than 391,000 active members, which is more people than can fit in a giant stadium! They don't just help car workers anymore; they also help people who work in hospitals and even at casinos.

They recently helped workers at a car factory in Tennessee join their team, which is super exciting because it's the first time they've organized a foreign car company's plant in the United States!
