Trolleybus

A trolleybus is a special kind of bus that runs on electricity. But instead of a big battery, it has two long poles, like skinny arms, that reach up to touch special wires hanging above the street. These wires are like a giant extension cord for the bus! The electricity flows down the poles and makes the bus zoom along. It's like a train on the road, but without the tracks!

Trolleybuses are not super new! People started using them a long, long time ago, even before your grandparents were born. They were a clever way to make buses run without using gasoline, which was good for the air. Over the years, many cities around the world have used them to help people get around town. They are still a popular way to travel in many places today!

Trolleybuses are super quiet and don't make yucky smoke like some other buses. This helps keep the air in cities clean and fresh for everyone to breathe. They are also very good at going up hills because the electricity gives them a strong push. Plus, they can be as long as two school buses parked end-to-end, carrying lots of people!

Those long poles on top of the trolleybus are called trolley poles. They have springs inside that push them up to stay connected to the wires. The bus needs two wires and two poles because electricity needs a path to go down one wire and then back up the other to make the bus move.

If a pole slips off, the bus has to stop until it's put back on the wire. It's like a special dance between the bus and the wires!
