Treaties of Tilsit

In the summer of 1807, two very important leaders, Napoleon from France and Tsar Alexander from Russia, met in a town called Tilsit. They didn't meet in a fancy palace, but on a special raft floating in the middle of a river! It was like a secret clubhouse meeting.

They were signing peace treaties, which are like big agreements to stop fighting. This happened after Napoleon won a big battle called Friedland. He was a super famous general and emperor!

These treaties were like a giant game of musical chairs for countries. Napoleon was the winner and got to decide how things would be. Prussia, another country, had to give away almost half of its land!

Imagine if your playground was suddenly cut in half. From that land, Napoleon made new, smaller countries, like the Kingdom of Westphalia and the Duchy of Warsaw. It was all about Napoleon making his empire bigger and stronger.

Even though these treaties happened a long, long time ago, they were super important! They made France the boss of a big part of Europe. Russia and Prussia had to become friends with France and fight against other countries like the United Kingdom and Sweden.

It's like if your best friend suddenly had to be friends with someone you didn't like! This also meant Napoleon could send his soldiers to fight in other places.

The Treaties of Tilsit were like a giant reset button for Europe. Napoleon used his victory to redraw maps and create new kingdoms. He made sure Russia and Prussia would help him against his enemies.
