The Straight Story

This movie is about a super nice old man named Alvin. He has to go visit his brother who is very sick, but Alvin can't drive a car because his eyes aren't great and his legs don't work perfectly. So, guess what he does?

He hops on his lawn mower! It's a bit like the ones you see in gardens, but this one is old and goes super slow, only about as fast as you can walk. He even pulls a little cart behind it!

Alvin's journey is really, really long! He has to travel 240 miles, which is like going from your school all the way to another state! He's going from a place called Iowa to a place called Wisconsin. Imagine how many snacks he needed! He meets lots of different people along the way who are surprised to see him chugging along on his lawn mower. It's a real adventure!

Alvin wanted to see his brother because they hadn't talked in a long time. He wanted to make things right before it was too late. It shows that even when things are hard, like having to travel a super long way on a slow mower, it's important to try and be with your family. It's a story about love and trying your best.
