Key Facts
The Race That Almost Was!
Get ready for a story about a super exciting boat race that was supposed to happen in 2020! It's called The Boat Race, and it's a big competition between two famous universities: Oxford and Cambridge. They race in long, skinny boats called 'eights' on a river in London. This race is a really old tradition, and everyone looks forward to it every year!
Row, Row, Row Your Boat (But Not This Time!)
This race is like a super-long swimming race, but in boats! It happens on a part of the River Thames that's about as long as 7 football fields. The teams have eight people rowing together, plus one person steering. They practice for ages to get their rowing perfectly in sync, like a team of synchronized swimmers but in a boat!
A Big Surprise!
But guess what? The 2020 race couldn't happen! A new sickness called COVID-19 was spreading around the world, and it wasn't safe for everyone to get together. So, the race was called off. It was a really sad day because it was the first time this race had been cancelled in a super, super long time!
Who Were the Rowers?
Even though the race didn't happen, the amazing rowers from Oxford and Cambridge were still chosen. They were so ready to compete! The people who would have been in charge of making sure the race was fair were also announced. It would have been extra special because for the first time, women would have been the main judges!
