Key Facts
Meet the Land Homes!
Imagine all the places on Earth where you can walk around, like your backyard or a big park. These are called terrestrial ecosystems! They are different from places with lots of water, like oceans or lakes. On land, there's soil under your feet, and plants grow right out of it. Think of a forest with tall trees or a grassy field. These are all homes for many creatures!
Where Did These Homes Come From?
Long, long ago, even before dinosaurs, Earth started to change. Slowly, different kinds of land appeared. Some places got very hot and dry, becoming deserts.
Other places got lots of rain, turning into super green rainforests. Over millions of years, plants and animals learned to live in these new places. They adapted to the sunshine, the rain, and the soil, creating all the amazing land homes we see today.
Why Land Homes Are Super Important!
These land homes are like Earth's lungs, helping us breathe! Plants in forests and grasslands take in yucky air and give us fresh air. They also help keep our planet clean and healthy. Plus, so many animals, from tiny bugs to big bears, live in these places. We need to take care of them so everyone has a safe place to live.
Different Land Homes for Everyone!
There are so many kinds of land homes! Some are super cold and snowy, like the tundra. Others are warm and have lots of rain, like tropical rainforests where monkeys swing. There are also dry deserts with cacti and grasslands with tall grasses where zebras might run. Each place has special plants and animals that are perfect for living there.
