Swan

Swans are big, beautiful birds that love to swim in lakes and rivers. They have long, elegant necks that they can bend in amazing ways. Their feathers are usually white, but some swans are black! They use their strong wings to fly, sometimes for very long distances. Swans are known for being graceful, but they can also be quite protective of their families.

You can find swans in many places around the world! They like to live in freshwater lakes, slow-moving rivers, and even some coastal areas. Many swans live in Europe and Asia, but they have also been brought to other continents like North America and Australia. They build cozy nests out of reeds and grasses, usually near the water where they can easily reach their yummy food.

Swans are mostly vegetarians, which means they love to eat plants! They spend a lot of time dipping their long necks underwater to munch on roots, stems, and leaves of aquatic plants. They also enjoy eating seeds and sometimes even small insects or tiny fish if they can find them. It's like a salad bar and a snack bar all in one for them!

Baby swans are called cygnets, and they are covered in fluffy gray or brown down when they hatch. They are born in nests that their parents build, and they can swim and walk just a few hours after being born! The parents are very good at keeping their cygnets safe. A group of swans is called a herd, a wedge, or a ballet.
