Key Facts
Where the Coconut of Sunda Lives!
Sunda Kelapa is a very old port in Indonesia, like a special doorway to the sea. It's where a big river, the Ciliwung River, meets the ocean. This place is so old that it was the main port for a kingdom called the Sunda Kingdom a super long time ago! Think of it as the busiest playground for boats from way, way back. It's located in a part of North Jakarta called Penjaringan District.
Boats That Tell Stories!
Today, Sunda Kelapa isn't as busy as it used to be, but it still has special visitors! Only 'pinisi' boats can come here now. These are cool wooden boats with two tall masts, like giant legs for sails. They are used to carry things between islands in Indonesia. It’s like seeing a parade of ancient ships still working hard, carrying goods just like they did hundreds of years ago!
The Start of a Big City!
Even though it's a smaller port now, Sunda Kelapa is super important because it's where the giant city of Jakarta began! It was the main place for trading and meeting people from other places. This old port helped Jakarta grow into the huge, busy city it is today. It’s like the tiny seed that grew into a giant tree, with the port being the very first sprout!
Who Runs the Port Today?
Sunda Kelapa is managed by a company called the Indonesia Port Corporation. They make sure the boats are safe and that everything runs smoothly. Even though it's an old place, it's still a working port. It’s a wonderful mix of old traditions and modern jobs, showing how important this historic spot is for Indonesia's islands.
