Chesley Burnett "Sully" Sullenberger III, born January 23, 1951, embarked on a lifelong journey with aviation that would culminate in one of the most celebrated emergency landings in history. Within minutes, at an altitude of approximately 2,800 feet, the aircraft encountered a massive flock of Canada geese. The impact was catastrophic, leading to the immediate and complete failure of both engines.

This critical event thrust Captain Sullenberger and First Officer Jeffrey Skiles into an extraordinary crisis. Faced with the impossible choice of attempting a perilous return to an airport or finding an alternative, Sullenberger made the decisive and ultimately life-saving decision to ditch the aircraft in the Hudson River.
