Sonam Wangchuk

Imagine a superhero who uses his brain to help others! That's Sonam Wangchuk. He's a special kind of teacher and inventor from a place called Ladakh, which is high up in the mountains. He loves finding clever ways to solve problems, especially for kids and for nature. He started a school called SECMOL to make learning more fun and useful for everyone.

Sonam grew up in Ladakh, a beautiful but sometimes tricky place. He noticed that the schools there weren't always teaching kids what they really needed to know for their lives. So, he and his friends decided to create a new kind of school. It's like building a brand-new playground where the games are about learning and helping the world around them.

One of Sonam's coolest inventions is called an 'Ice Stupa'. It's like a giant ice cone that stores water from winter to use in the dry summer. It's as tall as a two-story building! He also designed a whole school campus that runs on sunshine, using no gas or electricity from outside. This helps keep the air clean and saves energy.

Sonam believes that learning should be exciting and practical. He helped start a big project called 'Operation New Hope' to make government schools better. It's like getting a whole team of friends together to fix and improve something important. Because of his amazing ideas, Sonam has won many awards, like a special prize called the Ramon Magsaysay Award!
