Socrates

Imagine a man who loved to ask questions more than anything! That was Socrates. He lived a super long time ago in a city called Athens, in ancient Greece.

He didn't write books like we do today. Instead, he walked around and talked to people, asking them questions about everything. He wanted to know what was right, what was fair, and what it meant to be a good person.

He was like a detective for ideas!

Socrates had a special way of thinking called the Socratic method. It was like a game of 'Why?' and 'How do you know?'. He would ask someone a question, and then ask more questions based on their answer.

He did this to help people think really hard about what they believed. Sometimes, people realized they didn't know as much as they thought! Socrates often said he only knew one thing: that he didn't know everything.

Even though Socrates didn't build anything or lead armies, people thought he was very important. He helped people learn to think for themselves and to be good. His ideas were so powerful that even after he was gone, people kept talking about him.

His students wrote down his conversations, and those stories helped shape how people thought about fairness and honesty for thousands of years. He's like a superhero of thinking!

Sadly, not everyone liked Socrates' constant questions. Some people in Athens thought he was confusing them or teaching them bad things. So, they put him on trial.

Even when he had a chance to escape, Socrates chose to stay and face the consequences. He believed it was important to follow the rules, even when they were unfair. He was given a drink that made him fall asleep forever, but his ideas lived on.
