Slayback's Missouri Cavalry Regiment

Slayback's Missouri Cavalry Regiment was a group of soldiers who rode horses during a very important time in American history called the Civil War. They were like a special team of riders, ready to go wherever they were needed. These soldiers were known for their speed and bravery as they rode across the land.

This special group started as a smaller team called a battalion. Lieutenant Colonel Alonzo W. Slayback gathered brave men from Missouri to join him. They joined up during a big adventure called Price's Raid in 1864. It was like a big road trip, but with important missions!

Slayback's riders had many exciting adventures! They fought in battles like Pilot Knob, Sedalia, and Lexington. They even helped find a new way to cross a river during the Battle of the Big Blue River. Imagine trying to find a secret path for your whole team!

After all their brave fighting, the soldiers were given a break. They went to Arkansas and then to Texas to be with their leader, Major General Sterling Price. Later, they were allowed to go home. It was a long journey for these brave horse riders.
