Shovel

Imagine a tool that helps you dig big holes, move mountains of sand, or even build a castle! That's a shovel! It has a handle, usually made of wood or metal, and a wide, flat part called a blade.

People have been using tools to dig for thousands of years! Long ago, before metal shovels, people used big animal shoulder blades or flat pieces of wood. They would tie a stick to them to make them easier to hold and use.
