Sharda Sinha

Imagine a singer whose voice is as sweet as a cuckoo's song! That's Sharda Sinha. She was born a long, long time ago, on October 1st, 1952. She loved to sing folk songs, which are old songs passed down from families, and classical songs, which are more formal and beautiful. People from her home state of Bihar loved her so much, they called her the 'Cuckoo of Bihar'!

Sharda Sinha sang many special songs. Some were for weddings, called 'Vivah Geet', and others were for a big festival called Chhath, called 'Chhath Geet'. These songs are like musical stories that celebrate important moments in life. Her voice made these songs even more magical, bringing joy to everyone who heard them. It's like singing your favorite song at a birthday party!

Because Sharda Sinha was such a wonderful singer, she received very special awards. In 1991, she got the Padma Shri, which is like a gold star for amazing artists. Then, in 2000, she got another award called the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.

The biggest award came in 2018 when she received the Padma Bhushan, which is one of India's highest honors. She even received another super high award after she passed away!

Sharda Sinha's music is special because it connects people to their culture and traditions. Her songs are like a warm hug from home.
