Secretariat (horse)

Imagine a horse so fast, he made other horses look like they were standing still! That was Secretariat, also called 'Big Red' because of his beautiful reddish-brown coat. He was a champion racehorse who won the biggest races in America. He was so good, people still talk about him today as one of the greatest horses ever!

Secretariat raced in three super-tough races called the Triple Crown. He won all three! In the last race, the Belmont Stakes, he won by a HUGE amount – 31 lengths! That's like winning a race by the length of 31 school buses! His speed in these races was so incredible, he set records that no one has broken even today.

Secretariat wasn't just fast, he was a record-breaker! He set the fastest times ever in all three Triple Crown races. His time in the Kentucky Derby is still the fastest ever on that track. He was so amazing that he won special awards for being the best horse, even when he was just a young colt!

Even after he stopped racing, Secretariat's greatness continued. He had many children and grandchildren who became amazing racehorses too! He's like the super-dad of horse racing, and his amazing speed and talent can still be found in many champion horses racing today.
