Key Facts
What's All the Fuss About Rounders?
Rounders is a super exciting game played by two teams. One team hits a ball with a bat, and the other team tries to catch it! The main idea is to hit the ball and then run around four special spots called bases. If you make it all the way around without getting out, your team scores a point, called a 'rounder'. It’s a bit like baseball, but with its own cool rules!
A Game From Way Back When!
Did you know rounders has been around for a super long time? It started in England way back in the Tudor times, which is like hundreds and hundreds of years ago! It was even written about in a children's book in 1744, where it was called 'Base-Ball'. So, the next time you play, remember you’re playing a game with a really old and cool history!
How to Score Big!
To score a 'rounder', you need to be a speedy runner! After you hit the ball, you run as fast as you can around first base, second base, and third base. Then, you race back to where you started, which is home base.
If you make it all the way around without the other team catching the ball or touching you with it, HOORAY! You score a point for your team. You can also stop at any base if you don't think you can make it all the way.
What You Need to Play!
To have a game of rounders, you need a few things. First, you need a ball that's small and hard, usually covered in leather. Then, you need a bat, which can be made of wood, plastic, or metal. Of course, you need players! Two teams play against each other. And you need four bases set up in a diamond shape on the field. That’s all you need for a fantastic game of rounders!
