Rocinha: A City on a Hill!

Rocinha is a very special place in a big city called Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil! It's built on a giant, steep hill that looks out over the ocean. It's so close to the beach, you can almost smell the salty air! The houses are packed together, climbing up the hillside like colorful steps. It's surrounded by lots of green trees, making it a beautiful, busy spot.

Rocinha started a long, long time ago as a tiny 'little farm,' which is what its name means! Over many years, more and more people came to live there. At first, the houses were made of simple materials, but now, most homes are strong buildings made of brick and concrete. Some are even as tall as a two-story house! It grew from a small place into a huge, lively neighborhood.

Around 72,000 people call Rocinha home! That's more people than can fit in a giant sports stadium! Everyone lives close together, and they’ve built a whole community. There are shops selling yummy snacks, places to get medicine, and even buses that take people around. It’s a place where families live, work, and play together, creating a vibrant and busy atmosphere.

Even though it's on a hill, Rocinha is like a mini-city! It has hundreds of businesses, like little stores and places to eat. People have electricity to power their lights and TVs, and water to drink and wash. There are even banks and places to get help if you're sick. It’s a place with everything you need, all built on a very exciting hillside!
