Meet the Music Maker!

Robert Schumann was a super-duper composer and piano player who lived a long, long time ago. He was born in a town called Zwickau in Germany. Even though his family weren't musicians, Robert loved music and writing stories. He was like a musical wizard, creating beautiful tunes that made people feel happy or a little bit sad, just like a good storybook!

His Amazing Musical Ideas

Robert loved to write music for the piano, and some of his songs were even about childhood! He also had a special way of writing. He imagined he had two different personalities: one was super energetic and brave, like a superhero (he called this one Florestan), and the other was gentle and dreamy, like a quiet friend (he called this one Eusebius). He wrote music to show these different feelings!

Love and Music

Robert fell in love with a wonderful pianist named Clara. Her dad didn't think Robert was good enough, but Robert and Clara got married anyway! After they got married, Robert wrote even MORE beautiful music, including songs about love and even a whole symphony, which is like a giant musical story for an orchestra. Clara was also a famous musician, and they inspired each other.

A Special Musical Friend

When Robert was older, he met a young musician named Johannes Brahms. Robert thought Brahms was amazing and told everyone how great his music was! Sadly, Robert wasn't always feeling well in his mind, and he passed away when he was only 46. But his music still makes people happy and inspires musicians all over the world today!
