Roan Mountain (Roan Highlands)

Roan Mountain is like a giant, bumpy camel with two humps! It's a super tall mountain that sits right on the border between North Carolina and Tennessee. It's covered in thick, green forests, like a cozy blanket. But the coolest part is that some parts of Roan Mountain are covered in soft, green grass, with hardly any trees! It's like a big, grassy playground way up high.

Roan Mountain is home to the biggest natural garden of rhododendrons in the whole world! Imagine fields and fields of beautiful, colorful flowers, all growing wild. These flowers are like nature's confetti, making the mountain look extra special, especially when they bloom. It's a magical place that attracts lots of visitors who want to see this amazing flower show.

There's a famous trail called the Appalachian Trail that goes right over the top of Roan Mountain. It's like a long, winding path for hikers. The highest little house on this whole trail, called a shelter, is found here! It's the perfect place for hikers to rest and enjoy the amazing views from way up high.

Roan Mountain has two parts. One part has pointy peaks covered in dark green pine trees, like a secret forest. The other part is super wide and covered in grass, called a 'grassy bald'.
