Reginald Dyer

Imagine a soldier named Reginald Dyer. He was a British officer who worked in India a long, long time ago, when India was part of the British Empire. He was born way back in 1864 and lived until 1927. He was part of the British Indian Army, which was like a big team of soldiers. He had a job that meant he was in charge of other soldiers and had to make important decisions.

One very sad day, April 13, 1919, something terrible happened in a place called Amritsar. A lot of people had gathered in a park called Jallianwala Bagh. Colonel Dyer, as he was known then, gave an order. His soldiers fired their guns at the crowd. It was a very frightening and dangerous situation for everyone there.

Sadly, many people were hurt and many lost their lives that day. The official count said at least 379 people died, and over a thousand were injured. It was a shocking event. After this, Dyer went on to fight in another war, but the events in Amritsar were what he became most known for, and not in a good way.

Reginald Dyer's story is a part of history that reminds us how important it is to be careful and kind. His actions caused a lot of sadness. He was a soldier, and soldiers have big responsibilities. His life ended in 1927, but the story of what happened in Jallianwala Bagh is still remembered today.
