A Day of Celebration Turns Sad

Once upon a time, on a sunny day called Baisakhi, many people gathered in a beautiful garden called Jallianwala Bagh. They were there to celebrate and also to talk about important things. But then, some soldiers came and blocked the only way out of the garden. It was like being trapped in a playground with no way to leave!

The Garden Becomes a Place of Worry

The garden was surrounded by buildings on three sides, making it a bit like a big room with only one door. The soldiers, led by a General, stood by that one door. Sadly, instead of listening, they started firing their guns at the people. Many people were hurt, and sadly, many lost their lives. It was a very frightening and sad moment.

How Many Were Hurt?

It's hard to know the exact number, but it's believed that between 379 and over 1,500 people were killed. Imagine a whole school full of kids, and then even more, all in one place! Over 1,200 other people were injured, some very badly. This event made many people feel very sad and worried about what was happening.

Remembering What Happened

This sad event is remembered so we can learn from it. It showed how important it is for people to be treated fairly and for everyone's voices to be heard. Even though it was a long time ago, remembering Jallianwala Bagh helps us understand how to make sure such sad things don't happen again.
