Imagine you have a basket with 3 red apples and 2 green apples. A ratio is a way to compare these numbers! We can say the ratio of red apples to green apples is 3 to 2. It tells us how many red apples there are for every 2 green apples. It's like saying, 'For every 3 red ones, there are 2 green ones!' Ratios help us see how things stack up against each other.

People have been using ratios for a super long time, even before they had schools! Ancient builders used ratios to make sure their buildings were strong and looked just right. Think about building with LEGOs; you need to make sure you have the right number of red bricks for every blue brick to make a cool pattern. Ratios helped people make amazing things by keeping their numbers balanced.
