Project Hyperion (interstellar)

Project Hyperion is like a super-smart idea club that started in 2011. Its main goal is to figure out how humans could travel to other stars, which are super, super far away! Think of it as planning the biggest, longest road trip ever, but through space.

They want to see if we can build a special kind of spaceship, maybe one that takes many, many years to reach its destination, so people born on the ship would have families and even grandchildren before arriving!

This amazing idea started with a group of clever students at a university in Germany called TUM. They were thinking about the future and how we could explore the universe. They wanted to make sure their ideas were based on things we already know how to build, or things we could build very soon.

It’s like using LEGO bricks you have at home to build something new and exciting, instead of wishing for special bricks you don't have.

Thinking about traveling to other stars is super important because it pushes us to invent new things! Project Hyperion helps scientists and engineers imagine what kind of giant spaceships we might need. They even think about how many people would need to live on the ship for a very long time, like a whole floating city in space!

This helps us learn more about space travel and share these cool ideas with everyone.

Even though we can't build these starships today, Project Hyperion has helped create detailed plans for them. These plans are like blueprints for a giant, amazing spaceship that could travel for hundreds or even thousands of years! It's a way to explore the possibilities and inspire people to learn about science and engineering.

They even had a contest to design these future ships, and teams from different countries won prizes for their awesome ideas!
