Prince Henry the Navigator

Once upon a time, in Portugal, there was a prince named Henry. He wasn't like other princes who just stayed in castles. Prince Henry loved ships and the ocean!

He sent them to explore the coast of Africa, which was a big mystery to Europeans back then. They discovered islands and learned about new trade routes.

Prince Henry's adventures helped his country become very powerful. By exploring new places, Portugal found new ways to trade and get interesting goods. He was like the first big boss of a giant exploration company!

Prince Henry was fascinated by stories of a legendary Christian king named Prester John, who he hoped to find in Africa. He also wanted to find new ways to trade for gold and other treasures.
