President of Syria

The President of Syria is the most important leader in the country. They are like the captain of a big ship, steering Syria through good times and bad. This leader is in charge of the government and is also the boss of the army. They even get to meet leaders from other countries and make important agreements!

Syria has had many presidents over the years. The very first one was named Subhi Barakat, way back in 1922. Sometimes, leaders changed very quickly, like when there was a coup, which is like a sudden takeover. For a while, Syria even joined with Egypt to become one country, and the president of Egypt was also the president of Syria!

The president has some really big jobs. They make sure the government runs smoothly and are the top commander of the Syrian Army. When Syria needs to make friends with other countries, the president is the one who signs the treaties. They also live in a special place called the Presidential Palace in the capital city, Damascus.

Recently, there have been big changes in Syria. After a long time with one family in charge, a new leader named Ahmed al-Sharaa is now in charge. A new rulebook, called a constitution, was made to help guide the country. This new president is working to lead Syria into the future.
