Portal Sculptures: Your Window to the World!

A Portal sculpture is like a super-cool, giant video call booth! It's a big, round artwork that connects two cities. Inside the sculpture, there's a screen showing a live video of the other city. On top, a camera lets people in one city see and wave to people in the other city. It’s like having a magic window that lets you peek into a faraway place and even say hello!

These amazing Portals are placed in busy spots in different cities. The first ones were in Vilnius, Lithuania, and Lublin, Poland. More recently, new Portals were set up in New York City in the United States and Dublin in Ireland. Think of them as bridges made of light and video, connecting people across oceans and countries!

A super creative artist named Benediktas Gylys from Lithuania had the idea for these Portals. He wanted to help people feel closer to each other, even when they are far apart. He imagined art that could bring the world together, and these glowing circles are his amazing creation. They started as an idea in 2016 and became real in 2021!

Portals are special because they use technology to make us feel connected. They show us that even though we might live in different places, we can still share moments and see each other. It’s a fun way to learn about other cities and the people who live there, making the world feel a little smaller and friendlier.
