Meet Benedict IX: A Pope with Three Turns!
Have you ever had to leave your house and then come back? Well, Pope Benedict IX did that not once, but twice! He was the leader of Rome, called the Pope, for three different times. First, he was Pope from 1032 to 1044. Then, he came back for a little bit in 1045. And finally, he was Pope again from 1047 to 1048. It's like getting to play your favorite game three times!
How Did He Become Pope So Young?
Benedict IX was born a long, long time ago, around the year 1012. When he first became Pope, he was only about 20 years old! That's younger than most people who become Pope. His dad helped him get the job by giving gifts, which wasn't the usual way. It's like if your parents helped you become the class president just because they knew the teacher really well.
A Pope Who Made a Big Splash!
Benedict IX was known for doing things that surprised people. Some people said he acted in ways that weren't very good for a Pope. This made the people of Rome so upset that they kicked him out! But he was very determined and came back with his friends to take his job back. He even tried to give his job away to his godfather, but then he changed his mind!
Why We Still Talk About Him Today!
Benedict IX is super special because he is the ONLY person who has ever been Pope three different times. He's also the only Pope who was ever accused of selling his job, which is a really big deal. Because he did so many unusual things, people still remember him as a very interesting and sometimes surprising leader from a long time ago.
