Philip II of France

Imagine a king who was really good at making his country bigger and stronger. That was Philip II! He was born a long, long time ago, in 1165.

His dad was King Louis VII, and Philip was a special surprise baby, so people called him 'God-given'. Philip wasn't just any king; he was the first one to officially call himself the 'King of France' instead of just 'King of the Franks'. He was like a superhero for France, making it the most powerful place in Europe!

Philip II was a super smart leader. He had some big fights with other kings, especially the English ones who had lots of land in France. But Philip was a great fighter and a clever planner.

He won a super important battle called the Battle of Bouvines. This win was like hitting a home run for France! It made everyone know that the French king was the boss, and it helped France become even more important in the world.

Philip II loved his capital city, Paris! He wanted to make it safe and grand. So, he built a huge wall all around the city.

This wall was so big, it was like building a giant fence to protect everyone inside! He also made the government work better and helped the towns grow. He even helped people who weren't nobles, like shopkeepers and builders, get more freedom.

Paris became a much better place because of him!
