Petroleum products are like special treats made from a thick, dark liquid called crude oil. This oil is found deep, deep underground. When we take it out and cook it in a special place called an oil refinery, we get all sorts of useful things. Think of it like baking a cake – you start with ingredients and end up with something yummy! These products help us do so many things every day.

Long, long ago, tiny plants and animals lived in ancient oceans. When they died, they sank to the bottom and got buried under layers of sand and rock. Over millions of years, the heat and pressure from deep inside the Earth turned them into crude oil! It’s like a super-slow cooking process. People discovered this oil and figured out how to bring it to the surface to use it.

We can also make soft, waxy stuff called paraffin for candles, and even slippery oils that help machines work smoothly. Sometimes, we even get a yellow powder called sulfur, which is used to make other cool things.
