Where is Pernambuco?

Pernambuco is a special place in Brazil, a big country in South America. Think of Brazil as a giant puzzle piece, and Pernambuco is a part of its northeastern corner. It's like a big playground with lots of sunshine and warm weather. Its biggest and busiest city is called Recife, and it's famous for being built on many little islands and connected by bridges, like a watery maze!

A Long, Long Time Ago!

People have lived in Pernambuco for thousands of years! Then, explorers from faraway lands like Portugal arrived. They started growing lots of sugarcane, which is a tall, sweet plant. To help grow the sugarcane, they brought many people from Africa to work. This is why many people in Pernambuco today have families from both Europe and Africa, making it a place with many different stories.

Party Time in Pernambuco!

Pernambuco is famous for its super fun parties, especially during Carnival! The biggest parade in Recife, called Galo da Madrugada, is so huge it's been in the Guinness World Records. Imagine a parade so long it could stretch for miles and miles! People dance to lively music, wear colorful costumes, and celebrate with joy. It's a party that everyone wants to be a part of!

What Do People Do There?

Even though Pernambuco is known for its sweet sugarcane, most people today work in jobs that help others, like doctors, teachers, and shopkeepers. They also still grow sugarcane, which is used to make sugar and a special Brazilian drink called cachaça. The capital city, Recife, is a very important place for business and for people to live and work, buzzing with activity.
