Palaeoproterozoic

Long, long ago, even before dinosaurs, there was a time called the Palaeoproterozoic Era. That's a super long word for a super old time! It was about 2.5 billion years ago, which is so old it's hard to even imagine.

Back then, Earth looked very different. There were no tall trees, no fluffy animals, and definitely no humans! It was a time when life was just starting to get interesting, mostly in the oceans.

One of the most amazing things that happened during the Palaeoproterozoic was the creation of oxygen! Tiny living things called cyanobacteria, which were like super-simple blue-green algae, started making oxygen as a waste product. They used sunlight to make their food, and poof!

Oxygen was released into the air. This was a HUGE deal because before this, Earth's air didn't have much oxygen at all.

This new oxygen was like a superpower for life! At first, it was actually a bit poisonous to some of the old life forms, but it also made way for new kinds of life to appear. These new life forms could use oxygen to get energy, which helped them grow and become more complex. It was like the Earth was getting ready for bigger and better things, like plants and animals!

Imagine a world with mostly oceans and rocky land. The sky might have looked different too, maybe a bit hazy. The most exciting things happening were underwater, with tiny microbes doing amazing things. The Palaeoproterozoic Era lasted for a very, very long time, about 1 billion years! That's longer than you can even count! It set the stage for all the amazing life we see on Earth today.
