Meet the Statue Maker!

Oscar Nemon was a super talented artist who loved to make statues out of stone and metal. Imagine making a person out of clay, but much, much bigger! He was born a long, long time ago in a country called Croatia. Later, he moved to England and became famous for his incredible sculptures. He made art that people could see and touch, bringing history to life!

Sculpting Big Heroes!

Oscar Nemon is most famous for making statues of Sir Winston Churchill. Churchill was a very important leader in England. Oscar made more than a dozen statues of him! Some of these statues are HUGE, maybe as tall as a two-story house! It took a lot of skill and hard work to shape all that metal or stone into a lifelike person.

From Clay to Grand Statue!

How did Oscar make these giant statues? First, he would probably make a smaller model out of clay, like you might do in art class. Then, he would use special tools to carve and shape the big pieces of stone or metal. It’s like a giant puzzle, but instead of fitting pieces together, he was carving them out! He had to be very careful to get all the details just right.

Why We Still See His Art!

Oscar Nemon's statues are important because they help us remember people from the past. When you see a statue of Sir Winston Churchill, you can imagine what he was like and the important things he did. These statues stand in public places, like parks or outside buildings, so everyone can see them. They are like frozen moments in time, telling stories for us to discover!
