Who Was This Viking King?

Imagine a super-important king from a long, long time ago! That was Olaf Tryggvason. He was the King of Norway for about five years, from 995 to 1000. He was like the boss of Norway, making big decisions. His dad was also a king, and his family had been royal for a long time. He's known as Olaf I because there were other kings named Olaf later on!

Olaf's Big Adventure!

Olaf Tryggvason was a Viking warrior, and he traveled a lot! He was born around the year 960. We don't know exactly where he was born, but it was somewhere in Norway. He was a brave fighter and became king after some exciting adventures. He was a very strong leader who wanted to make Norway a Christian country.

Building a New Norway!

Olaf Tryggvason did two super important things. First, he helped bring Christianity to Norway. He built the very first Christian church there in 995! Imagine building something so new and important. Second, he founded a city called Trondheim in 997. It's still a big city today, and there's even a statue of him in the middle of it!

Stories of a King

It's tricky to know everything about Olaf because the stories were written down a long time after he lived. Some people wrote books about him, like Snorri Sturluson, who wrote about Viking kings. These stories are like old tales, and historians try to figure out what's true. But we know he was a king who made a big difference!
