Key Facts
Meet the North German Confederation!
Once upon a time, many German states were like separate islands. In 1866, Prussia, a big and strong state, said, 'Let's team up!' They formed the North German Confederation, which was like a club for northern German states. It was a big step towards making all of Germany one country, like how all the kids in your class are part of the same school.
How Did They Get Together?
Prussia had a big fight with Austria and won! After the win, Prussia made a new rule: the old German club was over, and a new one, the North German Confederation, would start. It was first just a promise to help each other in fights, but soon it became a real country with its own rules and a parliament where people could vote.
A Super Important Team-Up!
This Confederation was super important because it was the very first step to creating the Germany we know today! It was like building the first floor of a tall building. Without this first floor, there would be no other floors, and no Germany as we know it. It showed that German states could work together.
Joining Forces for a Bigger Country
Later, France got a bit worried about this new team. They had a disagreement, and a war started! During this war, the southern German states, who weren't in the club at first, decided to join too. This made the Confederation even bigger and stronger, eventually leading to the creation of the German Empire.
