Where is Newcastle?

Newcastle upon Tyne is a super cool city in the north of England, right on the edge of the River Tyne. It's like the northernmost big city in England! If you imagine a map, it's on the northern side of the river, with another town called Gateshead on the southern side. It's a busy place where lots of people live together, making it the biggest town in its whole region.

A Castle Gave it a Name!

This city wasn't always called Newcastle. A long, long time ago, it started as a Roman camp. Then, it was called Monkchester. But the most exciting part is when a castle was built there in 1080 by a very important person named Robert Curthose, who was the son of William the Conqueror! Because of this new castle, the town got its new name: Newcastle!
