Meet the Wobbly Warriors!
Get ready for a wild show! Namur stilt jousting is a super old game from Belgium that's been played for 600 years. It's like a medieval battle, but everyone is super tall on stilts!
Two teams, the Mélans and the Avresses, wear colorful outfits and hop around on special stilts. Their job is to try and push the other team off their stilts. If you fall off, you're out of the round.
It's a game of balance, bravery, and a little bit of wobbly fun!
Where Did This Tall Game Come From?
This amazing game started a super long time ago, about 600 years back, in a city called Namur in Belgium. Imagine your grandparents' grandparents' grandparents playing this! It was a way for people to show off their skills and have a big, exciting competition.
Over the years, it became a special tradition that everyone in Namur looked forward to. It's so cool that it's still played today, keeping the old ways alive and exciting for everyone to see.
Why Is This Game So Special?
This isn't just any game; it's a treasure! The grown-ups who know all about traditions decided Namur stilt jousting is so important that it's now a 'cultural heritage of humanity.' That means it's a special part of what makes people, people, all around the world! It shows how people have always loved games, competition, and celebrating together.
It's like a living piece of history that you can actually watch and cheer for!
How Do You Win This Wobbly War?
The main goal is to be the last team standing on their stilts! Each team has players who try to gently (but firmly!) push the other team members off their stilts. You can't use your hands to push, only your body and your stilts.
Once you fall, you can't get back up, so you have to be super careful. The team that knocks all the players from the other team off wins the round. It takes a lot of practice to stay balanced and aim just right!
