Who Was Najm al-Din Ayyub?

Imagine a very important person from a long, long time ago! Najm al-Din Ayyub was a real person who lived in a place called Dvin. He was a smart and strong man who was good at leading people.

He was also the father of a very famous leader named Saladin. Najm al-Din Ayyub was so important that a whole family line, called the Ayyubid dynasty, was named after him! He was like the first big tree from which many branches grew.

Where Did He Come From?

Najm al-Din Ayyub came from a place called Dvin. Think of it like his hometown! He was a mercenary, which means he was a soldier who was paid to fight for different leaders.
