Mount Takao

Imagine a mountain that's not too far away, just about an hour from the busy city of Tokyo! That's Mount Takao! It's like having a giant playground right next to your home.

This mountain is super popular, and millions of people visit every year to hike its trails. It's protected in a special park called Meiji no Mori Takao Quasi-National Park, which means it's a special place to keep safe and beautiful for everyone to enjoy.

Mount Takao stands 599 meters (that's about 1,965 feet) tall. To help you imagine, it's taller than about 100 giraffes stacked on top of each other! Mount Takao is famous for something super cool: tengu! Tengu are special creatures from old Japanese stories. They are like magical guardians of the mountain.
