Mohammed Zahir Shah

Imagine a king who loved his country very much! Mohammed Zahir Shah was the king of Afghanistan for a super long time, from 1933 to 1973. That's longer than your parents have been alive, and maybe even your grandparents! He was born in Kabul, the capital city of Afghanistan. He wanted to make his country a better place for everyone.

King Zahir Shah wasn't a king who liked fighting. He believed that talking and working together was the best way to solve problems. He tried to bring peace to Afghanistan. He also wanted to make sure that all the people in his country had schools and hospitals. He was a kind leader who cared about his people's well-being.

During his time as king, Afghanistan started to change. New roads were built, and more children went to school. He also wanted Afghanistan to be friends with other countries. He traveled to places like the United States and met with leaders there. He believed that sharing ideas and helping each other made everyone stronger.

After ruling for 40 years, King Zahir Shah was visiting Italy when something happened back home. Some people took over the government and said he was no longer king. He lived in Italy for many years, but he always missed his home country. Later in his life, he was able to return to Afghanistan.
