Mohammad Hatta

He was a true 'Proclamator,' meaning he helped declare Indonesia's freedom.

Mohammad Hatta was born a long, long time ago, in 1902. When he grew up, he saw that his country, Indonesia, wasn't free. It was like someone else was telling them what to do.

So, he and other brave people decided to do something about it. They wanted Indonesia to be its own boss! He even went to a special, tough place called a concentration camp because he was so brave in speaking up for freedom.

Mohammad Hatta was super important because he was one of the main people who helped Indonesia become a country! He and Sukarno signed the paper that said, 'Indonesia is free!' This is called the proclamation of independence. It's like signing your name on a special drawing to say it's yours.

Because he was one of the very first to sign, he's known as one of the founders of Indonesia, the person who helped build it from the start.

One of the most amazing things Mohammad Hatta did was help write and sign the Declaration of Indonesian Independence. Imagine a really, really important piece of paper that said Indonesia was now its own country. Hatta was the second person to sign it, right after Sukarno.
