Masabumi Hosono

Masabumi Hosono was a man from Japan who lived a long time ago. He was a civil servant, which means he worked for the government, helping people. He was born in 1870 and lived until 1939. He was a real person, not a character in a story, and he had a very surprising adventure that made him famous, but not in a good way for a long time.

Masabumi Hosono was on the Titanic, a giant ship that sadly sank in 1912. It was a very scary night! He was one of the lucky people who survived the sinking. But when he got back home to Japan, people didn't cheer for him. They were actually very upset with him, which must have felt very confusing and sad.

People in Japan thought Masabumi Hosono didn't act the way a hero should. They believed he saved himself instead of staying with the ship. In those days, it was thought that brave people should go down with a sinking ship, like a knight protecting their king. Because of this, Masabumi was not celebrated; he was criticized and ignored by many.

Even though Masabumi Hosono had a tough time because of the Titanic, his family lived on. His grandson, Haruomi Hosono, became very famous! Haruomi is a musician and is part of a cool band called Yellow Magic Orchestra. So, Masabumi's story is part of a family that has made its mark in different ways over the years.
