Imagine a super-talented baseball player named Mark Teixeira, nicknamed 'Tex'! He was a fantastic first baseman who played for many years in Major League Baseball. He was so good that he even won a special award for being the best college baseball player in the whole country! Tex loved playing baseball and was known for hitting the ball really, really far.
Swinging for the Fences, Twice!
What made Mark Teixeira extra special was that he could hit home runs from BOTH sides of the plate! That means he could switch his batting stance and hit just as powerfully. He did this more than any other player in baseball history, with 14 games where he hit a homer from each side. It's like being able to kick a soccer ball with both your left and right foot equally well!
A Champion on the Field!
Mark Teixeira was a huge part of his team, the New York Yankees, winning the big World Series championship in 2009. He hit the most home runs and drove in the most runs for his team that year! He was also chosen for the All-Star team three times, which means the best players in the league picked him to play with them. He won lots of awards for being a great hitter and a great fielder.
From Georgia to the Big Leagues!
Mark Teixeira grew up and played college baseball in Georgia. He was so good that the Texas Rangers baseball team picked him to play professionally. He made his big league debut on the very first day of the season in 2003 and hit 26 home runs as a rookie! He played for 14 amazing seasons, showing everyone how much he loved the game.
