Madrid Codex (Maya)

This isn't a normal book you'd find at school. The Madrid Codex is like a super-duper old diary made by the Maya people a super long time ago, even before your grandparents were born! It's made from special tree bark, all folded up like a long accordion.

It's so old and special that it's kept very safe in a museum in a city called Madrid, far across the ocean. It’s one of only four Maya books like it that still exist today!

Long, long ago, people called the Maya lived in a place called western Yucatán, which is in Mexico. They were super smart and loved to draw and write. This book, the Madrid Codex, was made by them!

It’s like a window into their world. They used it to write down important things, maybe about the stars, animals, or even how to do special ceremonies. It helps us learn all about their amazing lives from way back then.

Guess what? This amazing book was once broken into two pieces! One part was called the Troano Codex, and the other was the Cortesianus Codex.

For a long time, people didn't know they were part of the same book. Then, a clever person named Leon de Rosny figured out they belonged together. He helped put them back together, like a giant puzzle!

Now, we call it the Madrid Codex because it lives in Madrid, and it’s a super important treasure.

The Madrid Codex is like a time machine! It shows us drawings of Maya gods, people in fancy clothes, and even animals. It’s filled with symbols and writing that scientists are still trying to understand completely.
