The Sad Story of Preston Porter Jr.

Preston Porter Jr. was a young Black boy who lived a long time ago, in the year 1900. He came to Colorado with his dad and brother. Imagine them arriving in a new place, ready for new adventures! But sadly, their time in Colorado turned into a very sad and unfair story. Preston was only 15 years old when something awful happened to him.

Preston and his family were wrongly accused of a crime. Even though they hadn't done anything wrong, Preston was taken away. He was kept in a tiny, hot room for days. Then, he was put on a train to go to jail. But a group of angry people, called a mob, stopped the train! They took Preston away from the train station.

The mob did something incredibly cruel and wrong to Preston. They chained him to a metal rail and burned him alive. This was a lynching, a terrible way people were treated unfairly and violently a long time ago. It's important to remember this sad event so we can learn from it and make sure everyone is treated with kindness and fairness.

This story is important because it shows how important it is to be fair to everyone, no matter what they look like. Preston Porter Jr. did not deserve what happened to him. Remembering his story helps us understand that judging people unfairly can lead to terrible things. We want a world where everyone is safe and treated with respect.
