Key Facts
Where is Hillingdon?
Imagine a giant slice of London! Hillingdon is way out west, making it the furthest west part of London. It's super big, the second largest of all the London boroughs.
Think of it like having a really big backyard! It's so big that it has lots of open spaces, like parks and even a big airport. It's a place where the city meets the countryside, giving you the best of both worlds.
It's a place full of surprises waiting to be explored.
Hillingdon's Amazing Airport!
Guess what? Most of Heathrow Airport, one of the busiest airports in the world, is right here in Hillingdon! That means lots of planes take off and land here every single day.
Planes are like giant metal birds carrying people to faraway places. Heathrow is so big it's like a small town all by itself, with shops, restaurants, and lots of people working there. It connects Hillingdon to countries all around the globe, making it a super important place.
Olden Days in Hillingdon
Hillingdon wasn't always like it is today. A long, long time ago, it was made up of smaller towns and villages. These places were called Hayes and Harlington, Ruislip-Northwood, Uxbridge, and Yiewsley and West Drayton.
In 1965, all these places decided to join together to become the big Hillingdon borough we know now. It’s like when you and your friends decide to form a super team! This joining up helped make Hillingdon a special place.
Lots of Room to Play!
Even though Hillingdon is part of London, it's not packed with buildings everywhere. It's actually one of the least crowded places in London! This is because it has lots of green fields and open land, especially in the north.
It also has an airport and a special place for planes called an aerodrome. This means there's plenty of space for parks, rivers, and even farms. It's a great place to enjoy nature and have room to run around.
