Imagine a super-special trophy that the best ice hockey teams in the world get to win! It's called the Stanley Cup, and it's like the ultimate prize in hockey. Teams play super hard all season and then in exciting playoff games to try and lift this amazing cup. It's been around for a super long time, even before your grandparents were born!

A long, long time ago, in 1892, a very important person named Lord Stanley wanted to give a prize to the best hockey team in Canada. He donated this amazing trophy, and it was first given to teams that played really well in challenge games. Back then, it was for amateur players, but now it's for the super-skilled professional players in the NHL!

Winning the Stanley Cup is a HUGE deal for hockey players. It means they are the absolute best team in the whole league for that year! It's like winning the biggest championship in school for sports. Some teams have won it many, many times, like the Montreal Canadiens, who have won it 24 times! That's a lot of celebrations!

Every year, after a long season and tough playoff games, one team gets to be the champion and take home the Stanley Cup. The Florida Panthers are the most recent winners, taking home the cup in 2024 and 2025. It's a tradition for the winning team to celebrate with the cup, and sometimes they even get to keep it for a little while!
